The cauterization of the dorsal region of the protocerebrum containing the neurosecretory cells of the pars intercerebralis and probably the inhibitory nervous centre reestablishes the vitellogenesis and oviposition in the females of Leucophaea maderae reared without males. 82 per cent of the ovocytes mature in these females. Furthermore, abnormalities observed in the formation of the oothecae suggest that the oviposition mechanism is disturbed.
