[Treatment of schizophrenia in clinical practice].

Currently, patients with schizophrenia are frequently treated as outpatients by primary care physicians, both for prevention and during acute psychotic crises. Yet, this therapeutic approach is associated with several problems. This article offers relevant treatment guidelines based on current scientific knowledge and under the assumption of the vulnerability model. This model allows the recognition of different pathogenic factors and also the integration of various treatment modalities, like pharmacotherapy treatment, family treatment and supportive psychotherapy.
