Chronic stress caused by 3-week electro-pain stimulation (4 h daily) combined with "white noise", resulted in a decrease of horizontal motor activity of rats with extreme types of behaviour, i.e., active and passive. No changes in behaviour of animals with intermediate behavioural type were found. Long-term (30 days) adaptation to hypoxia (daily lifting to 11,000 m for 5 h) did not cause changes in behaviour of rats. Combination of stress and hypoxia caused an increase of number of grooming acts in rats with passive type of behaviour, testifying to their increased anxiety. Long-term adaptation to hypoxia did not influence the degree of loss of motor activity caused by chronic stress in animals with active and passive types of behaviour.
