The above consensus management plan is not all embracing as there remain many areas of contention in the management of melanoma. As the knowledge of the aetiology and natural history of atypical naevi improves, so the recommendations are likely to alter. The purpose of these guidelines is to give the general practitioner a framework to better plan and manage their patients with malignant melanoma.
