We compared the incidence of nontraumatic lower extremity amputations in the diabetic and nondiabetic populations in New Jersey. The diabetes-related lower extremity amputation rate was 80.1/10,000 diabetic population, while the rate for nondiabetes-related amputations was 1.6/10,000 population.
