Abstract
The author analyzed the results of treating 20 patients with stable loculated pleural empyemas. The treatment involved punctures and lavage of the cavity and efforts to recover bronchial patency and alveolar ventilation. In all patients, the residual cavity was liquidated and the lung got smoothed completely.
