[Program for elimination and eradication of poliomyelitis caused by wild polioviruses in Poland].

Since 1988 the programme coordinated by the WHO of elimination and eradication poliomyelitis by the year 2000 is performed. In this article the following topics are presented: 1) the criteria of elimination and eradication of poliomyelitis caused by wild polioviruses; 2) the epidemiological situation in the world, European Region and Poland; 3) the role and activities of epidemiologists, clinicians and virologists in the programme.
