Abstract

Various socio-economic and cultural factors prevalent in the Al Hussein Locality were studied, in an attempt to decide the groups of children that are nutritionally at risk. The study was carried out on 110 children suffering from energy protein malnutrition and 98 normal children. Their ages ranged between 4 and 36 months. The per capita income was found to be inadequate to meet the least requirements and it was considered to be the most important high risk factor that malnutrition needs to be tackled in this respect. The results and contribution of the other factors to malnutrition were discussed.
