Health service development for physician/medical records: a 1980s model, a 1990s application and refinement.

A new service to dictate hospital discharge summaries for attending physicians was developed using the Bushman-Cooper health care service development procedural model. The development of this service by the application of this model provided evidence of the model's general usefulness and specific areas where the model could be refined. Recommendations are made to improve the model's practical applicability.
