The occurrence of IgG antibodies to Helicobacter pylori was measured by means of ELISA in 175 patients who had undergone surgery for duodenal or gastric ulcer. There was a significant correlation between surgery with resection and the absence of IgG to Helicobacter pylori in about 80% of cases. In patients undergoing surgery without resection there was no influence of the surgical technique on the presence of Helicobacter pylori antibodies.
