Recent research in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in childhood is reviewed in the following areas: neuroanatomic and genetic linkages that may help to explain the heterogeneous nature of this disorder and possible treatments; the continued efforts by researchers to tease apart comorbid symptomatology and contribute to our understanding of the parameters of attentional problems; and the studies of medication effects on the two central domains of difficulty of children and adolescents with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, school performance and achievement, and social relationships.
