This article considers the risks to health care workers who are involved in the handling of cytotoxic chemotherapy. The hazards involved in actual administration of chemotherapy, how to prevent them, and how to deal with them if they arise, are discussed. The risks to pregnant health care workers are examined, as are the as yet undetermined potential risks from long-term background exposure to cytotoxics.
