Fifty healthy children presenting for outpatient exodontia received either propofol or methohexitone for induction. Anaesthesia was maintained in both groups using 50% oxygen in nitrous oxide and 1-2% halothane. Those receiving methohexitone maintained a significantly higher mean arterial pressure and heart rate than the propofol group. Nine percent of patients in the propofol group developed ventricular arrhythmias, compared to 32% in the methohexitone group.
