The reproductive efficiency of the Xhosa.

Four sociogeographical groups of Xhosa were studied to show differences in their reproductive efficiencies. The rural groups showed increased perinatal, infant and over-all death rates compared with the urban groups. The highest death rate in all groups was during the infant period. The infant mortality was about 25% among the rural groups and 10% among the urban groups.
