A seven year-old German Shepherd bitch had severe dyspnoea caused by a lipoma. The weight of this lipoma was approximately 4 kg, the total weight of the dog without this tumour being 20 kg. The lipoma was not attached to the body wall but to the mediastinum, so it must be concluded that it had its origin there. The dog expired because the lungs could not expand after the operation.
