Clinical, radiographic and pathological findings demonstrate that kyphosis in 11 weaned pigs with formation of wedge shaped vertebrae can be caused by congenital malformation, traumatic lesion (fracture), inflammation (osteomyelitis), metabolic bone disease or abnormal body posture following chronically painful diseases. Lordosis in 2 weaned pigs with cuneiform deformations of the dorsal part of vertebrae was also caused by developmental malformations or abnormal body posture (polyarthritis). No evidence of heredity in the group of congenital vertebral malformations was found.
