A study was performed to evaluate two types of sterile surgical gloves for perforations following oral and maxillofacial surgery. Our findings indicate that perforation of surgical gloves, and thus possible contamination of the surgeon and patient, is not uncommon, and to create a completely barrier-free environment when using sharp instruments may be impossible.
