Using fast and ultra fast MRI-techniques saves considerable investigation time. Particularly, gradientecho- und fast-spinecho-sequences are alternatives to time-consuming T2-weighted spinecho-sequences. Peculiarities in contrast and applications of these new techniques are discussed considering musculoskeletal MRI. Ultra fast techniques as fast-gradientecho-, GRASE- and EPI-sequences may be beneficial for joint cinematographic and contrast-dynamic studies in arthritis or tumors. Advantages and applications are summarized.
