Major depressive disorder (MDD) in young people is relatively common, disabling and recurrent, involving a substantial level of morbidity and mortality, mainly through suicide. Although much remains to be learned, an impressive body of knowledge has accumulated over the previous decade regarding the epidemiology, clinical features, management and outcome of MDD.
