Patient-focused care delivery system restructuring has significant implications for changes in "old world" financial and productivity systems. Patient care units in effect become "mini hospitals" as services are moved closer to the patient, thus creating a need for supporting systems to adapt to the "new world" environment of patient-focused care. This article describes the experiences of an organization in monitoring operations and impacts of redesign, and the ongoing challenges to create financial and productivity systems that support patient-focused care restructuring.
