Binge-eating disorder, characterized by recurrent eating binges without purging, affects a large number of individuals, especially among participants in weight loss programs. Recent studies have suggested that antidepressants, particularly serotonin selective reuptake inhibitors, may be effective in the treatment of binge-eating disorder. This paper reviews the findings of these studies and offers clinical guidelines for the use of antidepressants in binge-eating disorder.
