Surgery of the parathyroid glands.

The otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon is increasingly called upon to perform surgery on the parathyroid glands. It is required, therefore, that one have a thorough understanding of the various possible pathologic conditions and the appropriate operative approach for each condition. There is not universal agreement on every aspect of the treatment of various parathyroid entities, however, and they are briefly discussed in this article.
