Our knowledge of the actions of growth hormone (GH) and the clinical consequences of GH deficiency has increased enormously within the last decade. The present paper reviews studies on body composition-in particular muscle and fat mass-in the GH deficient state and the known effects thereon of GH replacement therapy.
