Five instances of side-effects after oral smallpox immunisation (out of 2568 persons orally immunised) are reported. Vaccinal lesions on the tongue, gums and (once) nares predominated and had been caused by biting open the vaccine-containing capsule or tablet with release of the virus.

报告了2568例口服天花疫苗后的5例副作用。舌、牙龈和（有一次是）鼻孔出现的疫苗接种损伤占多数，这些损伤是由于咬开含疫苗的胶囊或片剂致使病毒释放所引起的。
