A method is described for determining dimethylpolysiloxane in instant coffee. The siloxane is extracted with chloroform in a Soxhlet apparatus and then converted to silica which is estimated by a heteropoly blue method. The method is interference-free, and 5 microgram dimethylpolysiloxane can be easily detected.
