Latter's hypothesis of a molecular explanation of the advantage of heterozygotes is based on the intermediate character of such phenotypes. Under particular environmental conditions the efficiency of heterozygotes might clearly be superior to that of wild-type individuals. This hypothesis is illustrated by two examples of egg-white proteins in quail.
