Further studies are needed to assess the true clinical impact, in terms of reduced morbidity and mortality, of reversed LVH in hypertensive patients. However, the initial results strongly indicate that either a lack of decrease or an increase in left ventricular mass after antihypertensive treatment is associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular events, the latter being significantly reduced and almost normalised by a complete reversal of LVH.
