Implementing a patient classification system.

With the assistance of a consultant, an individualized patient classification system (PCS) tool was developed and studies of direct and indirect nursing care were conducted, using over 170 patients in a medical/surgical division. Data were subjected to linear regression techniques and point values ranges and classification categories were established. Also, several significant areas for improvement were identified.
