Research utilization, that is, applying research findings to practice, is now recognized as essential to developing scientifically based nursing practice. A key step in this process is the ability of nurses to read nursing research studies and determine the usefulness of their findings for practice. This article presents strategies that will help nurses develop or enhance their reading and research skills, enabling fuller participation in the research utilization process.
