Pretreatment of rats with 6-hydroxydopamine over a narrow dose range (100 mg/kg i.p.), attenuated the hypothermic response elicited by administration of delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta9-THC) (10 mg/kg i.p.). Pretreatment with hexamethonium (10 mg/kg i.p.) also attenuated the response. These findings suggest that the hypothermic response produced by delta9-THC administration in the rat is related to alteration of autonomic outflow.
