The afferent impulses from the tongue muscles are carried by the hypoglossal nerve, trigeminal nerve, and some of them by glossopharyngeal nerve. The main exit of afferent fibers constitutes the hypoglossal nerve. The location of the ganglion cells responsible for proprioceptive impulses are mainly in the spinal ganglia of the C1-C3 spinal nerves.
