Successful outcomes for the ambulatory surgery patient begin prior to admission. With skillful assessment, early identification of possible risk factors, appropriate interventions, and education to prepare the patient and the family for the care required preoperatively and postoperatively, many procedures previously requiring hospital admission can now be done through the ambulatory surgery department.
