Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are the two major types of arthritis. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative process, whereas rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory process. Nurses need to be able to distinguish between the two types to provide patients with appropriate treatments.
