In this article the author describes his experience in training community health officers at the Community Health School of the State of Mexico. She presents her views on the training of this type of personnel to work in the rural areas of developing countries; described the fundamental characteristics of their training and the methods used; and indicates the difficulties encountered by the first graduates of the above-mentioned School when they took up their duties.
