Thanks to modern antibacterial methods pyogenic infections of the hand, including their complications, will have a favourable prognosis. The experiences of many decades have proved that the principles of treatment worked out by Kanavel [6] and Zur Verth [12] are still valid, and that local processes require immediate surgical intervention.
