[Acute water intoxication as a complication of therapy refractory schizophrenia].

A patient with chronic paranoid schizophrenia with delusions of infestation and of grandeur type, developed polydipsia in the course of his illness which ended up in acute life-threatening water intoxication. Apart from somatic causes like SIADH, which are discussed in literature, water-intoxication could psychodynamically be interpreted in the sense of acting on delusions.
