An ideal glaucoma drug reduces intraocular pressure profoundly and long-lastingly without known major side effects. Latanoprost, a new prostaglandin F2 alpha-analogue, indeed has these properties. However, we need long-term experience to exclude major, clinically relevant side effects. The influence of latanoprost on ocular circulation also needs further evaluation.
