Medical equipment that is obsolete to a physician in the United States may be considered "a thing of beauty" to a counterpart in a Third World country. So declares Marshall Brown, MD, and otolaryngologist from Saginaw. Retired--in theory--since 1994, he has devoted much of his time to gathering donations of unused and outdated medical equipment for a hospital near Guatemala City, Guatemala. In addition, he has seen that the donated supplies are refurbished and get to where they're needed--sometimes flying the supplies there himself.
