Under analysis there were 163 reoperations of patients with carcinoma of the thyroid gland. It was established that the most frequent cause of reoperations was the first intervention being inadequate to the kind of the tumor and to the degree of the tumor spread (92 cases). Recurrences and metastases after adequate operations were noted in 29 patients only. The reoperations were complex and included resection of the organs and tissues surrounding the thyroid gland. The hormonal and X-ray treatment was used. Five and more years after the reoperations 110 patients (72.4%) out of 152 followed-up patients were alive.
