If the 1980s can be called "era of immunohistochemistry", the 1990s are passing under the sign of active introduction into pathology of molecular and cellular biology methods. Particularly widespread is the technology of obtaining transgenic mice with hyperexpression or knocking out of certain genes, polymerase chain reaction and in situ hybridization. The latter two methods are actively used both in experimental and clinical pathology. All the above methods not only provide additional information in parallel with routine morphological methods but not infrequently are of crucial importance in the diagnosis and prognosis.
