[From ship barber to personal surgeon and confidential valet--on the 300th anniversary of the death of the father of composer Georg Händel].

The 300th anniversary of Georg Händel's death is the occasion of the first description of of his biography and of his medical work during his career from shipbarber to personal physician and confidential valet. Under three historical achievements the treatment of a knife-swallower should be pointed out.
