[Use of the herbicide diquat for the control of the aquatic plant Pistia stratiotes and its importance in the control of mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae)].

The feasibility of the use of the Diquat herbicide (reglone) in the control of the Pistia stratiotes aquatic plant is tested. This facilitates the reduction of mosquito larva densities by the action of natural enemies present in the ecosystem. The associated fauna is not affected by the employed concentrations of the herbicide under these conditions.
