The aim of this study was to determine the pediatric surgery demands in a third level hospital due to referrals from the primary health care sector in order to better plan the work and continuing education programs.
The total number of patients (1,451) consulting a service of pediatric surgery for the first time and referred from the primary care sector during a twelve month period were studied.
A total number of 1,451 children, with a maximum age of 14 years consulted. The assistential pressure was 22.01 consultations/pediatrician/day in one year. Consultations by children older than 7 years of age comprised 31.42% of the total. As for the distribution of these consultations, 61.26% were with a previous appointment, 38.74% were remitted to the second level. The most frequent reasons for consultations were inguinal hernia and hydrocele (30.46% of the cases), followed by phimosis (28.8%), undescended testis (8.2%) and skin neoplasms (5.78%).
The demands of pediatric surgery consultations referred from the primary health care sector is very important. It is necessary to adapt the continuing education programs so that pediatric residents and primary medicine physicians are more aware of the surgical pathologies that are most frequently found in primary care centers and to decrease the assistential pressure of the pediatric surgery consultations in the hospital.
本研究旨在确定一家三级医院因基层医疗部门转诊而产生的小儿外科需求，以便更好地规划工作和继续教育项目。
研究了在十二个月期间首次咨询小儿外科服务且由基层医疗部门转诊的患者总数（1451例）。
共有1451名儿童前来咨询，最大年龄为14岁。一年中辅助压力为每位儿科医生每天22.01次会诊。7岁以上儿童的会诊占总数的31.42%。至于这些会诊的分布情况，61.26%是预约就诊，38.74%被转诊至二级医院。最常见的会诊原因是腹股沟疝和鞘膜积液（占病例的30.46%），其次是包茎（28.8%）、隐睾（8.2%）和皮肤肿瘤（5.78%）。
基层医疗部门转诊的小儿外科会诊需求非常重要。有必要调整继续教育项目，使儿科住院医师和基层内科医生更加了解基层医疗中心最常见的外科疾病，并减轻医院小儿外科会诊的辅助压力。
