The thermodynamics of allosteric linkage are observed to be analogous to those of a phase transition. When a phenomenological theory of phase transitions is applied to the allosteric interactions in hemoglobin, a generalized Hill equation is arrived at, including an explicit dependence on temperature. This result is in good agreement with experiments.
