PURPOSE/OBJECTIVES: To provide an overview of nursing informatics and examples of informatics research highlighting the potential for intersecting such research with oncology nursing research.
Literature and online sources.
Nursing informatics may be discussed from technical, theoretical, or clinical perspectives. The interface between nursing practice and nursing informatics provides an opportunity to create new science and research to expand the boundaries of nursing knowledge.
It is time to evaluate the potential for intersecting informatics research with oncology nursing research. In an era of continuous healthcare change, nursing informatics has the potential to provide a unique contribution to oncology clinical practice and nursing research.
By creatively applying nursing informatics, oncology nurse researchers may better capture the phenomena relevant to oncology nursing practice and further the discipline.
