[Cervical epidural anesthesia in carotid endarterectomy].

The objective of the work was to verify in common clinical practice the advantages and disadvantages of surgery of the carotid arteries under general or regional anaesthesia and the possibility of selective use of a carotid shunt. Epidural cervical block appears to be a useful alternative of general anaesthesia, for the patient as well as the surgeon. It makes it possible to select, if desired, a carotid shunt which is an advantage from several aspects.
