Malnutrition is a common problem within the clinical setting. Patients affected by malnutrition are more likely to suffer serious complications with an associated increase in length of stay and cost of treatment. Despite these serious outcomes, nurses are still failing to nutritionally assess their patients. This paper explores means of determining nutritional status in order to facilitate early detection and treatment of nutritional problems.
