This article explores disturbing evidence that health professionals sometimes discriminate against disabled people in their care. Definitions and models of disability are examined with underlying beliefs about what 'disability' is. The author highlights some good practice and suggests positive ways in which nurses can challenge discrimination on the grounds of disability.
