As managed care continues to grow, medical groups are being forced to offer a greater range of services and improve their use of resources to stay in business. As a result, they're affiliating or merging with other groups and HMOs to boost revenues and trim expenses. While such relationships tend to be symbiotic, they also can be risky for HMOs, which continue to practice care in choosing their partners.
