The turbulent environment in which NHS hospitals operate today necessitates a fundamental rethink of business principles. Not all organisations have a mission statement and although the benefits are controversial, it has become an increasingly important issue. An audit carried out at The Leicester Royal Infirmary provides a pointer as to how managers can gauge whether staff are familiar with the hospital's philosophy and how they feel about it.
